Bede's book officially launched

Bede Tongs saw his book officially launched by former army chief Lieutenant-General Ken Gillespie on Friday 20th April at the Australian War Memorial.  The book 'Poems of Infanteer from the Firing Line' contains many of the poems that the members of the T2K project have come to know well.  The book is available from the Tumbarumba Gift Shop.
 

World Ironing Challenge

Congratulations to Jan Hastings on breaking the World Ironing record.  She ironed for a massive 80 hours, breaking the current record by 5 hours.  As well as achieving a personal dream Jan raised over $6000 for the T2K project.  This is an amazing effort and the T2K team are most appreciative of Jan and her team.

World Ironing Challenge

Local lady Jan Hastings begins her attempt on the World Ironing record tomorrow.  She will attempt to iron for over 76 hours beginning at 9am Sunday 1st April (this is not an April Fools joke).  As well as achieving a personal milestone Jan is also raising funds for the 2013 T2K trip.  We wish her well in her attempt and thank all those involved in making her attempt possible.

A successful trip.

The 20 students and 8 leaders had a great trip.  Highlights of the trip were our carriers, the day in each of the villages of Abuari and Kagi, the singing of the school kids at Abuari, Kagi and Menari, and the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Bomana War Cemetery.

Ready to go

Last night saw the end of the training program for the trip.  Tomorrow night the group heads off on their adventure.  Tonight they get together with parents, friends and community members for a simple BBQ and a pack check.  6 months of rigorous training and fund raising activities have the trekkers thoroughly prepared for the trip.  The group would like to thank all involved in making this trip possible - the sponsors, the community, the parents, the students and their leaders - an amazing ef...

Bede visits again

Bede and Gary Tongs recently visited to wish us well on the trek.  Bede once agin spoke about his experiences on the track and Gary recited some of Bede's poems.  Dave Bennetts representing Hyne Timber presented each trekker with a shirt and 'buff' headwear.  Bede was then asked to present to each trekker a badge with recognises the the four 'diggers'  after which the sub-groups are named - Tongs, Bisset, Muggleton and Pryor.  Badges were also presented to Bede and Gary. ...

Wild Aid Training

Last weekend the leaders undertook a Wild Aid course with All Aid instructors Stuart and Duncan.  The course was very informative and the scenarios allowed practical skills to be developed and refined.

Our trek is getting very close.

March 20, 2011


We are now in countdown mode, there are only a few weeks left before our April 8th departure.

Training has continued with three tough walks each week and last weekend we tested our equipment with a successful overnight camp on Tumba Hill.

This Thursday we look forward to another visit from our great friend Bede Tongs.

Group Names for the 2011 Trek

The trekkers have been split into 4 groups for their upcoming trek in April.  The names relate to 'diggers' who are connected with the project.  Groups are formed so that camp duties are evenly shared - they will be involved in cooking duties, setting up and taking down of campsites and ensuring that we leave campsites clean.

The 2011 groups are:

Bisset - after Capt. Stan Bisset (2/14th Bn) - prior to his death last year a great supporter of our project

Successful fitness assessment

February 19, 2011

Last week the whole group undertook an important fitness assessment - 4 laps of the 'hard yards' course, carrying at least 15kg in 50 minutes.  All successfully completed the task, the highlight being the supportive team work on show. 

The fundraising committee continues to do good work, with all hoping that the pancake stall at Tumbafest this coming weekend matches those of previous years.

Training over the comming weeks will see all finally reach the carrying weight of 20 kg, and the fine tu...
